Is Detox Treatment Necessary for Drug And Alcohol Addiction

A regular intake of minimal alcohol is good for the body. This was the finding that was recently made public and was even included among the secrets of having a long life. But alcohol to be beneficial should be taken in moderate amounts. Excessive alcohol intake is unhealthy by any standards. It often leads to alcoholism which is a condition wherein a person usually can no longer control the dependence on the substance. Such addiction requires medical attention before an alcoholic succumb to a variety of diseases which affects those who take alcohol in large amounts.

Drugs and other prohibited substances on the other hand are not meant to be taken at all. But the “high” that is experienced after taking is so alluring to many people that they become dependent on its use. As with alcoholism, prompt medical attention is required to save a drug addict from permanently hurting himself.

Before any alcohol or drug addict can be put under a rehabilitation plan, he must first undergo a detoxification process, so that the alcohol and other prohibited drugs inside his body can be purged out. This is done to make a patient physically stable and ready to undergo a long treatment. But withdrawal symptoms on an addicted person can be dangerous and so a detox process must always be handled by a medical professional. He could experience pain, delirium, rapid heart beat, nausea or even seizures.

Detox treatment is the initial step in making a person clean and staying clean throughout his life. In fact it was even believed before that a detox treatment is the same as a rehab treatment. But a detox treatment is only concerned with getting toxic substances out of a person’s body. A rehab regimen changes a person’s behavior towards alcohol and other addictive substances so that he can stay away from them for good.

But even if you are not addicted to anything, regularly detoxifying yourself has endless benefits for your health. It will keep those toxins that we encounter everyday from accumulating in our system, so that we are always prepared to fight off various diseases that affect man.
